A poem by Gyu ri

I HAVE

I have seen sunrise at dawn on the beach on New Year’s Day,
the beautiful reflection of its golden rays.

I have heard people cheering on the beach
and wishing everyone good luck.

I have touched the warm sand
and felt it flowing through my fingers.

I have smelled the salty sea,
while watching the sun rise above the horizon.

I have tasted strong coffee, going down my throat
and making me feel warm and content.

I have felt all these things with joy.

I have done all these things, and the New Year has begun.

I have remembered these days,
and these memories have made me live life to the full.

Our trip to Green Island by Jeong, Anna, Scott and Sung

We went to Green Island last weekend. First we met at the Reef Fleet terminal before departure. Everyone was looking forward to going to Green Island so much so, that one of us couldn’t sleep the night before. We collected our tickets after showing the receipts that we had paid for the trip at the school reception.

In Cairns, the sea has been brown and muddy because of the rain, but we saw emerald sea while travelling to Green Island. On the boat, we booked our snorkel equipment and put on our swimsuit. We were very excited about snorkelling at Green Island.

Finally, we got there! Our first impression was ‘WOW’! We saw the most beautiful scenery ever. We put on some sun block cream and off we went, swimming in the beautiful sea.

When we were swimming … one of us shouted “OH MY GOD!” “WONDERFUL! WONDERFUL!” because he could see his feet under the water. The water was so clear and transparent! So beautiful, except that, because of the strong sunshine, we had to move to the swimming pool where there was some shade.

We also saw some Australian dancing which we had learned from Annie. It was interesting, so we pretended to dance on the way to the pool.

We enjoyed the cool water in the pool. Suddenly, Jeong bumped her head against the side of the pool. She was bleeding. So we quit everything and went back to our cruise boat.

It was the end of the trip. One of the members of our group got injured but we were still very impressed with Green Island.
